Since they were both sixteen, her family let Lusie live with them. Her mother had hard problems with an alcohol addiction; therefore, she is there all the time. That makes Elisa to a positivity for her life; at first, she tracks her to parties, even if it is obvious that Lusie isn't a fan of it. Everything stops as she remarks about her pregnancy. Her parents throw her out of the house, and Lusie comes with her, since they are both eighteen, and helps her get enough money for a living for the three of them: herself, Lusie, and her son James. Lusie is out of town for a while since he is sick, so she takes her to the hospital (first scene in the movie). Afterwards, they aren't going to see each other for a while, and Elisa desperately tries to get enough money for the two of them. In the end, the friendship ends, as Lusie recognises why Elisa had been interested in their connection.
